Earlier this morning, President Brooks Keel and Athletic Director Tom Kleinlein held a conference to announce the big news.  Sun Belt Commissioner Karl Benson was also there as a part of handing out the formal invitation.  President Keel officially accepted the invitation to join the Sun Belt Conference.  This means that Georgia Southern will join the Sun Belt Conference starting in the 2014-2015 season.  This is certainly a big move for the Eagles and a much-needed one, moving up to the highest level in college athletics.  A team with such great tradition, and success was long over due for the move to put them more on the national stage.  Now, everyone will know their name for sure.

Georgia Southern will have the usual FCS schedule for the 2013 season but will not be eligible for the FCS playoffs.  In 2014, they will officially take on a Sun Belt Conference schedule and be eligible to win the conference, but they cannot go to a bowl game until the 2015 season.  The 2015 season will mark their Sun Belt Conference official member status.  So get excited Eagle Nation because Georgia Southern is going to show the country what it means to be the “Greatest Team in America”.
